Show Overview

The Present-Day Scandal: Right now, the mega-corporate Thompson Family Ventures is fighting for its life. Dodging a colossal lawsuit over toxic work environments at their failed startup network, YNTV, their legal strategy was simple: pretend the network never existed. They scrubbed the servers, deleted the files, and buried their disastrous flagship program, The Michael Richardson Weekly Report. It was the perfect corporate cover-up… until a group of anonymous hackers blew the vault wide open and dropped the entire series on the internet.

The Leaked Tapes: Now, the public gets a front-row seat to the ultimate media train wreck. ‘Breaking News’ is the satirical comedy that takes you inside those highly confidential tapes to witness a hilarious clash of eras and impossible corporate expectations.

Logline: When rogue hackers leak the deleted hard drives of a highly sued media empire, the world finally witnesses their most hilarious secret: a disgraced traditional news anchor and his dysfunctional team broadcasting from their walk-in closets, crushed by corporate demands to become the #1 show on TV while losing a lockdown ratings war to a rising tide of digital influencers.

  • Authentic “Period Piece” Aesthetic: The series serves as an authentic visual time capsule, leveraging the low-grade camera angles and technical glitches that became the universal standard for the era.
🌍 A Global, Inclusive Vision
  • Borderless International Team: The virtual mandate allowed the production to shatter geographic boundaries, bringing together an international cast and crew from the UK, Hungary, the US, France, Canada, Australia, and Sri Lanka.
  • Diverse Generational Voices: The show provides a diverse voice to the generation that lived through this unique period, weaving varied political and social perspectives directly into the script.
  • Intentional Representation: By bypassing industry gatekeeping, the show ensured that individuals with varying life experiences, neurodivergent profiles, and physical abilities collaborated in a highly supportive and productive virtual environment.
📺 Sharp Satire & World-Building
  • The Clash of Media Eras: The show offers a satirical critique of the exact cultural moment where legacy journalism violently collided with the dawn of new-age, attention-driven influencer media.
  • Post-Truth Commentary: Through humor, the series explores still-relevant topics such as misinformation and the crisis of public trust, utilizing satire to aid media literacy in a complex landscape.
  • Expansive Transmedia Universe: Inspired by large-scale franchises like The Boys, the narrative extends beyond the screen. Behind The Scenes Insights

🎬 Behind The Scenes: The Making of a “Visual Time Capsule”

‘YNTV Breaking News’ is a turnkey production born from the urgent need to reflect on the sheer absurdity of the 2020 news cycle. During a time when society was locked down and hyper-focused on 24-hour news broadcasts, the media landscape shifted into a space where hysteric performance, volatile personalities, and polarizing opinions rapidly overtook dignity and research . This series serves as a satirical way to find collective laughter in that madness, capturing the exact cultural climax where legacy journalism violently collided with the dawn of new-age media.

A Revolution in Remote Production

Due to the unprecedented global lockdowns, the development process was 100% remote and virtual. By bypassing traditional physical sets, the creative team turned the logistical nightmare of the pandemic into a groundbreaking production model.

Why It Matters Now

We are now entering the 5-7 year window where a comedic, nostalgic look back at the era can provide much-needed catharsis and hilarious reflection. By focusing on the crisis of public trust and generational conflict, Breaking News uses the “leaked tapes” of YNTV to turn a period of global trauma into a timeless conversation about the future of news.

Quotes from Creators or Cast

  • Ella Holt (Actress): “It was a project that occurred during a time when in-person collaboration wasn’t really possible due to the pandemic lockdown, but I got to work with people I probably would’ve never worked with otherwise because of location, and I absolutely enjoyed it.”
  • Rick McMann (Actor): “During one of the shoots, I actually had COVID, but the show had to go on. We were able to shoot because we were all working remotely, so I had no other cast or crew in my home, but I remember having to tough it out through that shoot.”
  • Tom Helberg (Actor): It was really fun dealing with an international crew and cast.  Having that international collaboration was also a new experience coming out of Breaking News and overcoming some language barriers at times but it was really a wonderful group and thankful for the experience, and it was a project that people believed in.
  • Viktor Balazs (Director/Writer/Associate Producer): my biggest challenge was when I had to work with 4 different actors in the same scene and giving instruction to everyone when everyone was improvising, that was a big challenge.
  • Mary E. Koppel (Actress):  Breaking News taught me that I really like to be part of a ensemble with a group that has mutual respect, and professionalism, and kindness and really creative group of people- I want to be part of something like that-  and it was funny.
  • Robert Brooks (Executive Producer):  If there’s one message I hope comes out of this show to viewers between the laughter, connection, remorse, and nostalgia is that we can do better as a community, and that we owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to do so for the now and future.
